Day One

Train cemetery Colchani Village - Uyuni Salt Flat - Eyes of the Salt Flat Playa Blanca former Salt Hotel - Incahuasi Island - Sunset / Distance travelled: approximately 185kms

Your journey will start in Uyuni town. We will pick you up from your hotel, Uyuni Airport or Uyuni bus station.

We will begin your excursion to the wonderful Salar de Uyuni at 10:30.

We recommend the use of sunscreen, dark glasses, comfortable shoes, slippers (in case there is water in the salt flat) and a cap or hat.

We will make the first stop at the Train Cemetery located on the outskirts of the salt flats. These trains were purchased during the administration of president Aniceto Arce, a great visionary of the mining industry. Unfortunately, the exportation of minerals from Bolivia to Europe failed due to the resistance of the natives who did not want their lands invaded.

After a brief visit to the abandoned locomotives, we will take you to the village of Colchani, at the entrance of the Uyuni Salt Flat. Here you can purchase some handicrafts made from salt and observe the manual processing of the salt extracted from the salt flat.

The moment that you have been waiting for: we will enter the Majestic Uyuni Salt, the star tourist destination of Bolivia. During the rainy season, the Salt Flat becomes a giant mirror. Standing in the middle of the Salt Flat is a surreal experience and you will not believe your eyes! In the dry season, the Salt Flat is an immense white desert giving the sensation that it is endless.

During your ride in the Salt Flat you will see the "eyes of the Salar": small holes that reveal the water flowing below the Salar de Uyuni. These waters have healing properties due to the minerals they contain.

Next we will travel to the Hotel Playa Blanca, an old salt hotel closed due to the environmental impact it had on the Salar de Uyuni. You can take some great photos; these fun pictures will be the envy of all your friends back home!

We will have a delicious lunch.

In the middle of the Uyuni Salt Flat is the Incahuasi Island, home of ancient giant cacti. You can access the viewpoint on the island with a short walk and get a superb view of the Salt Flat as well as the Tunupa Volcano.

After visiting Incahuasi Island, we will transport you to a special place inside the salt flat where you can find water covering the surface during most of the dry season. We recommend bringing an extra pair of shoes, sandals or rubber boots so that you can walk in/on the water. (We will confirm with you if there is still some water in the Salt Flat a short time before the date of your trip, as during particularly dry winters the Salar de Uyuni can completely dry up.)

The tour will end by enjoying a beautiful sunset inside the Uyuni Salt Flat. A true spectacle of nature, this will be one of the best highlights of your trip!

Accommodation in a Salt Hotel located on the shores of the Salt Flat.

Night and Day Two

Stargazing and Sunrise in the Uyuni Salt Flat - Transfer to your Hotel, Uyuni Airport or the Uyuni Bus Station

04:00 (a.m.) Pick up from your Hotel. We will transport you to the Uyuni Salt Flat. We will take you to a privileged spot for stargazing.

Stargazing inside the Uyuni Salt Flat is one of the most sublime things you can do for enjoyment and inspiration. Theres just something so wonderful about standing (or lying or sitting) under a starry sky that evokes feelings of awe and wonder.

We will stay inside the Salar de Uyuni until the sun comes up. Afterwards we will transport you back to your Hotel.

In case you will take a flight to La Paz we will transport you to the Uyuni Airport. If you will take a bus out of Uyuni we will transport you to the Uyuni bus station.
